Dr. Rilwan Adegboyega

Past President (2025 - 2026)

Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

As I conclude my tenure as President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, I am filled with immense gratitude and pride for what we have collectively achieved during this remarkable journey.

🎯 Reflections on Our Journey

When I assumed office, we set out with a clear vision: to strengthen our association, improve the welfare of our members, and enhance the quality of healthcare delivery at FMC Abeokuta. Today, I am proud to say that we have made significant strides in achieving these goals.

🏆 Key Achievements

  • Member Welfare: Successfully advocated for improved working conditions and timely payment of salaries and allowances.
  • Academic Development: Organized regular CMEs, workshops, and training programs to enhance clinical skills and knowledge. Provision of internet service for enhancement of research and training as well as setting up protocols through the academic committee to improve training of members, amongst others
  • Infrastructure: Upgraded the ARD Lounge and improved facilities for resident doctors.
  • Advocacy: Strengthened our relationship with hospital management, NARD, and other stakeholders.
  • Unity: Fostered a spirit of camaraderie and collaboration among all members.
  • Social Responsibility: Engaged in community health outreach programs and public health initiatives.

đź’ˇ Lessons Learned

Leadership in an association like ours requires patience, dedication, and the ability to unite diverse perspectives towards a common goal. I have learned that true leadership is not about authority, but about service—service to our members, our patients, and the medical profession as a whole.

The challenges we faced tested our resolve, but each obstacle became an opportunity for growth and innovation. From navigating healthcare policy changes to addressing the needs of our members during difficult times, every experience has been invaluable.

🙏 Words of Appreciation

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to:

  • The Executive Council members who worked tirelessly alongside me
  • Every member of ARD-FMCA for your unwavering support and trust
  • The management and staff of FMC Abeokuta for their cooperation
  • NARD National and Southwest Zone for their guidance and solidarity
  • Our families who supported us through the demanding times

đź”® Looking Forward

As I hand over the mantle of leadership to the incoming administration, I do so with confidence and optimism. The foundation we have laid is strong, and I trust that the new leadership will build upon it to achieve even greater heights.

To the incoming President and Executive Council: You have my full support. Lead with integrity, compassion, and vision. Remember that you serve not for glory, but for the betterment of our association and the advancement of healthcare in our institution and beyond.

To all members: Continue to uphold the values of our profession—excellence, service, and professionalism. Support your new leaders as you supported me, and together, you will accomplish remarkable things.

📝 Final Thoughts

Serving as your President has been the honor of my career. The experiences, friendships, and memories created during this tenure will remain with me forever. While my formal role concludes, my commitment to ARD-FMCA and our noble profession continues unabated.

Let us continue to stand united, advocate fearlessly for what is right, and never lose sight of why we chose this profession—to heal, to serve, and to make a difference in the lives of those entrusted to our care.

Thank you for the privilege to serve.

With gratitude and best wishes,
